What happens if the power goes out or the battery dies?

If the battery dies, access is available with a key.

How long do the batteries last, and how do I know when they need to be replaced?

The AA batteries last about 1 year.

Does the smart lock support temporary access codes or guest access privileges?

Yes. Guest/temporary codes can be set and deleted when it is no longer in use.
